BMW Routine Maintenance

BMW covers maintenance for 4 years and 50k miles on new cars, then it’s on the owner to keep up with maintenances. Basic maintenance at the dealer after the Free Maintenance Package can get quite expensive with high priced dealer parts, labor rate and markups. A simple error code scan can cost $200 for “an hour of diagnostic labor.”

We can do all your maintenance at a fraction of the price at the dealer, without the run-around. Call us at 818-654-5844 to get a quote for maintenance on your vehicle.

Error Codes Scan

Errors throw warning in iDrive, but some are silent to the driver. We can scan stored codes for potential problems.

Synthetic Oil Change

We recommend oil changes every 5,000 miles or less with full synthetic, versus BMW’s excessive long-life intervals.

Safety/Performance Inspection

Thorough check of belts, brakes, error lights, engine fluids, hoses, steering, suspension, tire pressure, and wipers.

Spark Plugs

Spark plugs should normally be changed every 60k miles, but M cars should change them every 15-30k miles.

Brake Pads

Pads will wear based on braking activity, and should be changes in pairs. Your brake sensors will usually alert you when it’s time.

Brake Rotors

Rotors are often changed along with pads, but can often last a couple sets of pads.

Wiper Blades

Check wiper blades every season and replace when they are no longer effective.

Coolant Flush

Southern California is hot, and cooling issue can cause real damage so flush your coolant every 2 years.

Air & Cabin Filters

We recommend air filter every 15k-30k miles. When dirty, you may notice decreased mpg, rough idle, and noise.

Brake Fluid Flush

Brake fluid brakes down and collects moisture so a flush every 2 years is recommended.

Power Steering Flush

Power steering fluid breaks down over time, gets contaminated, damages steering system, so flush every couple years.

Transmission Service

It might be called lifetime fluid, but we recommend changing the ATF or DCT fluid before 100k miles to extend its life

Popular BMW Services

Here are some popular maintenance services and common repairs among later model BMWs. The price range is only meant as a guide to the general cost of the service. Keep in mind BMW has dozens of models over the years that are designed differently so exact parts costs and labor time varies based on the vehicle model as well as the condition of the vehicle itself.

Engine Oil Service

BMW long-interval oil changes are too long, we think oil changes every 5k miles are ideal to keep problems at bay.

Spark Plugs

Spark plugs should generally be replaced every 60k miles. Bad plugs will cause misfires, rough idle, and short out coils.

Fuel Injectors

Fuel injectors can clog or leak, especially older index injectors. Injectors are made by BMW only and are expensive.

Cooling System

It’s hot in southern California, with +100F days in the summer. BMW engines run hot so flush coolant every two years at least.

Oil Filter Housing Gasket

This is a common oil leaker, which should be repaired to prevent oil leaking to critical engine components nearby.

Valve Cover Service

Valve covers leak, and PVC system failures, can cause a litany of problems requiring new gaskets and cover. Cost depends on the engine, but it’s never an easy job.

Brake Pads & Rotors

Brakes are the only parts and service BMW will not cover in the maintenance plan. Brake pads and rotor wear very much depends on the car and driver.

Battery Services

Battery issues are prob the most common auto issue, but also the easiest to fix. If the battery is old and cannot hold charge, it’s time to swap in a new one.

Suspension & Shocks

If you ride is rough, bouncy, or noise then you might have worn shocks or a broken suspension component.
